Headers or a Decat pipe

Looking into options on how to decat my bike and torn between new headers or a simple de-cat pipe. the bike is not going to be tuned any more than decat and lose the first muffler, a woolwich ECU flash plus K&N air filter and 16t front sprocket. Keeping the stock tailpipe.

Tempted to go the de-cat link pipe route keeping the Suzuki headers with the exhaust valve but losing the cat and huge box silencer in the hope of changing the exhaust note with an increase in power and reduction in weight. Not too sure on the exhaust valve and its operation, assume it acts as a mute, throttling down at low revs and then opening up at xxxxrpm? Like the idea of this mod as its cheap at 140.

Alternatively I can go to after market headers, Black widow at 399, Alpha at 580, Yoshi 820. My money would go on the Black widow as, to be honest I can't justify spending yoshi money, and the alpha would have to deliver something exceptional for its extra cost. I note that there are link pipes on the stock exhaust and they are on the arrow too, doe they make a difference to the engines performance?

Does anyone have any performance figures or an opinion on these systems. Open to discussion on alternatives too.

I know nothing and welcome the opportunity to share my knowledge with anyone crazy enough to take it

The stock exhaust is not that restrictive, and by no means quiet.

You will find a few posts about what to expect if you swap the OEM exhaust with headers, airbox-mod/filter.
With OEM or aftermarket pipe.
Plus piggybak-fueling (PCV)or ECU reflash/tune.

It will yield 10-15HP+ gain.

Just a decat alone will not give much I believe apart for better? looks.
(Most do not find the OEM huge muffler very "attractive")

At least I cannot recall seeing any dyno figures for just doing this "noise-only" mod.

I too wondered what to do...
I looked into Black Widow and heard very mixed reviews... Apparently the build quality is not all that and the fit was far from perfect...

So after much deliberation... I have a set of Arrow RaceTec headers being fitted at the weekend.... A bit eyewatering at 700 though...
They use the standard fittings and are compatible with the stock can and my Remus Hypercone.

I Will post performance figures!

If you didn’t have to cut the cat out of the stock headers I would say just get a link pipe. But the stock headers are SS and are probably fairly heavy compared to the arrow SS headers. So my vote is arrow header plus whatever can you like.

Well it's done...

I have a nice set of Arrow Race-Tec headers, a power commander v, a K&N air filter, Remus Hypocone slip-on and a nice custom Dyno...

The work was done by HM racing...(fantastic crew)

So I considered Black Widow... But HM racing, an independent specialist who build Racing bikes, and have no connection to any particular manufactures said use Akrapovic or Arrow and steer clear of Black widow...

I can't comment on black widow... But here is the main dyno results....

I've been looking round and settled on a plan of fitting a PCv this month , then fitting black widow headers next month , ( already has r11 can ) then riding it over to cresant suzuki ( supplying dealer) for them to install custom map/dyno set up . The workshop manager / dyno man there said he'd set up other bikes with black widow headers and gave no warnings against them . I can cut out about 400 quid of labour plus the headers are 400 quid cheaper , are they 400 quid worse or will they just brown up a bit over time ? I'm pretty anal about cleaning !

I can't comment on the Black Widow option...

But I can say I'm over the moon with my arrows.

I did the cat delete with the dominator mid pipe. Impressive manufacturing quality, good sound, still tuning the bike with PCV. Cheap, effective, and easy to do.
