Low fuel warning light

i really miss a low fuel warning light.
more than once i didnt pay enough attention to the small fuel gauge in the LC Display, and ran dry.
so i'm wondering if it is possible to add a real indicator lamp or LED.
there is a serial data line from the ecu to the instrument panel. is assume that the low fuel info could be taken from there, but i don't have any more info about this.
any ideas?

How do you run out of gas? In 120-150 miles, you never ever look at your gas gauge?
