Decat

Hey all. So I finally matured enough to install a decat on my 2016 Naked. I will be removing the downpipes and a friend will cut and chistle out the cat.
I have never taken downpipes before so i have a few questions. Ill take belly fairing down, move the rad a bit forward, unbolt the downpipes.
Upon reinstalling, do i need new exhaust gaskets? Mine is sat on 3.5k miles.
Also, do i have to torque the bolts to a specific value? Or hand tight and a quarter?
Ill be changing oil and filter as well.
Will consider Flashing if its running rough soon, or next year if running fine.

u don't need to remove the rad or new gaskets, I left the front part of the cat in for now and fitted new stainless head bolts, eBay, fit the whole system loosely, then evenly tighten the head bolts to the correct torque settings then the silencer, leave the decat clamp until last, mine seems ok with no tune, bit jittery when trying to cruise at highway speed, they run lean which is good for mpg but see how it goes, depends what you want

When taking off down pipes i used a couple of bunji cords to hold the radiator out of place. I did not disconnect or remove the radiator just move foward.

Make sure you cover the radiator, especially the fins on both sides with a towel or something while your working....the fins are very fragile

Thanks. Am struggling to find the torque values in the manual and online though. Have you amy info?

Cover the inside rad fins with a piece of cardboard or your knucles will leave dents while your in there, not much room to work. I don’t have torque specs, don’t believe you need to replace the gaskets. Since they are already crushed, tighten bolts till stop and then just a little more. Don’t need to crank on them, or you’ll strip the threads. Just tight.

Its 23Nm or 17lbft but not easy to get a torque wrench in there so as the others say, just what feels reasonable tight and the same amount on all the bolts - tighten them all a little at a time - i.e. NOT fully tighten one then move on to the next.

Cover the front fender with a cloth too to prevent that being scratched
