KTM Duke 390

Anyone own one and have some feedback?
I was looking at a new online article about the Svartpilen 401, which looks cool, and it's based on the KTM 390 motor.

I found a KTM 390 online for fairly cheap and it looks like it might be a fun little second bike (my list of possible second bikes just keeps getting longer).

Have'nt owned one but my mate races at the track every weekend and the 390 is his wheels of choice for commuting
and little twisties adventures.
He can't get enough of it.

A friend has one and it’s been pretty reliable, only problem in a couple years is the kickstand switch went out. It’s his second bike behind a gsxr750.

The RC 390 likes blowing engines so I think the naked will be ok as long as your not racing it.
Also when they first came out they had a wheel cracking problem plus engines over heating.
One of my friends wife has one and he reckons it been really good but if it was me I wouldn't buy one.
Don't get me wrong I like KTM I used to own a 990 Super Duke great bike.

Like most things KTM, those RC390's go amazing when they are going, and then they don't. I had three of them annoying me on the track, they look like a ton of fun.

There is some truth right there, my buddy had one traded it in and the head got blow. Ktm are great when they are running right but I always hear of problems, I know a guy with the 690 12,000 miles and all kinds of electrical problems , I wouldn't buy one...

I’ve had a 690 duke for the last year , lots of fun ,Iam going to miss it when the GSXS arrives next week , my mate borrowed the 390 the other day and I couldn’t believe how well it went following him , he’s a small guy though so maybe good power to wieght ratio helped

In reality you can't beat Japanese reliability.
I've owned a couple of Triumph speed triples and both bikes had clutch problems and didn't handle that great
Plus the first one I owned had other stupid stuff going on also So it's sort of turned me off Triumph.
KTM 990 ate a couple of batteries in 5 years no other problems but I've heard good and bad on later model bikes.
Moto Guzzi V7 no problems in 4 years of ownership but have heard of other owners who wouldn't buy another
Guzzi.
All the other bikes I've owned were all Japanese bikes and yes I've had a problem with one Kawasaki but it wasn't
A big deal.
I suppose what I'm saying is that when riding a Japanese bike I'm not thinking in the back of my
Mind :- Hope I'm going to make it.
