GSX-S1000f – Winter Project in NH

Earlier this year I bought a new 2018 GSX-S1000f; with plans to ride it for a few months and then make Winter time mods. Well as they say on G.O.T.; “Winter is Coming”, so in my free time around work, snow shoveling & snow blowing, skiing, work, family, etc.; I will be doing the mods.

I have gotten some great ideas from a couple of forums I am following, and most everybody has an idea of what they like; and what they feel is best. I also know what like; and this is a one-person bike (sorry wife). I also should explain, I bought the bike new for less than $9,000 (MSP is $11,299); so, I have / had a few dollars to play with.

As of this writing, a few of the minor mods are complete.

  • ·The rear pillion has been removed and a Suzuki Hard Cover installed
  • The rear pegs are removed
  • Yoshi tail tidy replaced the ugly rear fender (wiring is soldered, shrink wrapped & taped)
  • Added SW-Motech Mirror Wideners (tired of watching my shoulders)
  • Swapped out the OEM battery (7pounds, 12 ounces) and replaced it with an Antigravity 8 cell battery (1 pound 11 ounces).
Much like my 2016 Bandit, I have ordered most of the parts from Dale Walker’s Holeshot (great products and advice); Revzilla; and a few other providers. Oh yeah – I have scales and am weighing everything coming off and going on, as I want to see where I end up. Suzuki specs say the bike weighs 474 pounds – we will see.

And as of this writing, all the parts are here, so in no specific order:

· Arrow Headers. I also have them on my Bandit & love them
· Driven PAIR Block off Plates
· Yoshi Muffler Bracket (replaces right side rear foot peg)
· Holeshot Super Tune Pro with Dale’s GSX-S1000 map
· 14” Holeshot Black Street Exhaust with mid-pipe & clamp
· KN filter (will remove the Airbox partition / deflector plate)
· O2 Bypass / eliminator (more on this later)
· Healtech Servo Eliminator, Pair Eliminator & Speedo Healer (will adjust speedometer by -8.6%)
· Cox Radiator Guard (Protection from NH sand, salt & rocks)
· G2 Throttle Tamer
· Exhaust Gaskets
· Osram Night Breaker Headlight – Hi Beam Only

As I do the mods. I will also be removing the EVAP system (yup – CA emission bike in NH). Lastly I may send the ECU to DANO’S Performance in Hemet, CA for a partial reflash so I can pick and choose which specific changes I want; including turning off the 02 sensor (FI Light Issues on the 2018).

Come spring time, I will take both the GSX-S & Bandit to one of the semi local Dyno Centers and see what we have. As the project progresses, I will post updates, & pictures. Yes - “Winter is Coming”.

. Yes - “Winter is Coming”.
If you remove the EVAP you will get an error, which can be removed via flashing - also the 02 bypass, the servo eliminator and the PAIR eliminator can all be replaced by a reflash - why not just go for a reflash imeediately instead of buying the eliminators - cheaper for the flash than buying all these parts I would think!

Why the Holeshot Super tune instead of a reflash?

Frame stickers will go for sure.
St of NH requires reflectors to pass inspection, so stuck with them.

Keep us posted. The Bandit is a very under rated S/T IMO especially when sprinkled with some of dales products & tuning.

Finally getting around to my "Winter Project" - as it is still Winter here with over 2 feet of snow in my yard. Expectations are to take my time and have the bike good to go mid to late May.

As such, I have the GSX back at my house / garage yesterday and have carefully removed the Fairing (not fun) and made the bike all naked......... So far I have installed Rizoma Turn signals; LED Relay (not resistors); G2 Throttle Tamer & Kaoko "Cruise Control". I have decided not to install my Arrow Headers (sold them today) and have ordered a a header from PhuketPaul. With a Holesahot muffler & tune - it should be sweet.

Today I got rid of the airbox restrictor plate, removed the PAIR system & added block off plates, and removed the EVAP canister. I left the EVAP system purge control valve solenoid intact. Really cleans up the engine.

Reflectors are gone, and most - not all - of the decals are gone.

Picked up a R1 shock off eBay (brand new) and Paul is shipping his adapter along with the headers.

More later as work (play) happens.

How much trouble was it to remove air box and pair system? Soon as Paul's headers get here that will be one job that needs to get done.

The hardest part of the operation was removing the fairing.
Airbox (5 minutes) & Pair (10 minutes) are both very, very simple.
Got the block off plates through Revzilla.
Need a flash or a Healtech PAIR resistor to keep the F1 off.
