I just slapped on a set of road 5s about 300 miles ago so I'm sorry to here that. But... it seems like tire problems come in clusters and may or may not be a sign of design weakness. It's seems like kind of a crap shoot. I think it's one of the reasons some people can be so religious about one particular brand/model and others are about something else. I did my homework, and the overall reviews of the R5 are about as good as anything out there, but your post does have me a little concerned because they are fairly new. So far, everything about these tires has been a quantum leaps above stock (especially after 6K miles), but I never felt the original Dunlops gripped as good or cornered as good as these, and the Dunlops were horrible when cold here in SLC. I hope it was just bad luck and your tires are fine now.

Thanks Mike,
The performance of the Road 5's has been exceptional and I'm sure you're right about the random cluster of failures but just putting it out there so R5 users know! Glad you're enjoying the experience.

I'm out on another training run in roughly the same area this weekend so fingers crossed! Only about half the people I ride with carry repair kits with them so this episode out in the countryside with someone they know has triggered a few more sales
