Doing the 'standard' maintenance items is always good insurance to ward off problems later and keep the bike running well. How's the chain adjustment? I hate messing with it, but every now and again, got take up some of the slack there, too. If in doubt, looser is better than tighter! Now you got me thinking of what I need to be doing to my bikes...
That's dedication. I just give the rear tire a kick each morning to judge adequate pressure.
And the plastics do get easier to remove, or at least you'll get less worried about busting them.
I'm with @OldBobagain, I try to lube the chain right after every ride so it soaks in and is ready for the next time I head out. I really should get that Scottoiler hooked up. Just too lazy...
