Hi so yesterday i was washing my bike and i saw this stuff on the engine on the shifter side. i have know clue on what it is! is black and sticky!
I was thinking that maybe it is gasket maker... i wanted to contact the previous owner but i've lost the contact info
So can someone help me please! is it bad ?

Over oiled the chain, and the muck around the front spocket has flung out ?
Sounds better than a oil seal from the gear selector shaft as the engine oil would be cleaner, I think.
You'll know when you clean the area down and inspect it.

Looks like someone has possibly used chain cleaner which dilutes the lube and tuns it into sticky gunk, and not cleaned up after.

On my screen it looks like someone tried using a gasket sealer but hopefully it’s just chain residue

Thanks everyone i'll try to clean it with some chain clean! i'm crossing my finger that it is only some oil residue!

Thats what i though at first it really looks like it and the placement of the gunk is kinda odd that why chain oil residue didn't cross my mind

Looks like the previous owner may have tried sealing a leaking water pump with some kind of sealer?
