Cruise control issues?

8295 Views 77 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  blmtgt
Hi, is anyone having trouble with using cruise control once travelling 60mph, mine blinks twice and goes off, works fine if I switch on before leaving home but if I try for the first time that day whilst at that speed it doesn’t work?

Welcome! yea same thing on mine, blink then no worky.
Kind of a bummer when you shell out 15k on a BRAND NEW bike. Other than that, no complaints. How you like yours Roy(826)?

I like the bike a lot. Read about the CC issues early on from a UK owner on youtube so was not surprised when mine began acting up early on. I picked up my bike May 18th so I have had it a while now (4500 miles). They seem to have a hot start tapping/rattle once a few miles are on them. Mine started the noise at about 500 miles. However as it has gotten cooler outside the noise is not as often on hot starts. Suzuki to date has not answer for that either.

Thanks for the heads up. Just got 600 miles on it so will be doing the oil change etc soon. Sadly the snow will be flying soon (Northern Michigan) so will be Spring before I experience (hopefully not) the tapping/rattle.
This CC issue seems to be a "whack-a-mole" thing. Surprised Suzuki isn't all over this, and hasn't issued any service directive to dealers. Important to make sure this isn't widespread, or the model will have a black eye.
I have also had quite a few issues with the cruise control. Sometimes I can ride all day 300-500 miles with no issues and other days it might shut off several times. Bike has been to dealer for this as well as the hot start "knock" and they have nothing to say about the cruise control. With the much more bothersome knock however, they assure me that their test fleet bikes do the same thing and not to be worried. I have sent them videos of the noise and it really really bothers me! When the cruise control shuts off while riding, I usually pull in the clutch, turn of the key, turn it back on and im back in business without having to pull off of the road.

its weird tho. I didnt have a single issue in 2500 miles with CC.
Same issue for me, i have almost done 200km with this beauty.
So sometimes CC works fine, but sometimes i get the CC blinking three times on the dash and nothing happens.
In future rides, when having the problem again, I ll check if the rear brake light is going out or not, as I read here that might be the cause of this issue.
Also, some people with this problem say the CC light on the dash is blinking two times, others, like me, are saying it blinks three times... weird
To be continued.
had the issue again, and the rear brake light was goin out so thats a dead end..
I was using CC on mine until it stopped working today at about 400 miles. It worked earlier in the day and then just blinked 3 time and would not engage. It was scary when the car behind me rapidly went around me when my speed suddenly dropped due to the CC not working. Will take it back to the dealership on Monday.

Good luck my friend. All they will do is tell you nothing stored in computer and cant get it to duplicate the problem.

Went to the dealership on Monday and they adjusted the brake switch. On the way home CC blinked 3 times and shut off. I find that switching it on when I first start the bike works. If already underway, I need to turn the bike off completely so that CC will work on the restart. Really like it when it does work. They claim they’ll notify the Suzuki warranty person who has been at the dealership lately because another customer blew up a 2023 GSXR1000! He beat it so badly that he smoked the crankshaft. Suzuki is honoring the warranty.
Hello, I was researching about GSX and came across this thread. I have a Suzuki DL 1050 xt 21, and I also encountered the problem that sometimes the cruise turns itself off. Then I found a similar thread on the forum. I contacted the dealer during the first maintenance but they didn't find anything but invited me to visit another dealer who has the necessary test equipment. But after talking with him, I realized that 99% that it would be a waste of time and money to visit him.
It seems to me that this problem is related to the program in the ecu. But maybe that's not the problem. So far, a 100% answer has not been found on the v-strom forum.
Hello all, picked up a 2023 black GT+ last month and so far loving it... except for the dreaded cruise control problem. Looks like there is a UK service bulletin on this issue (attached). Short version is they recommend changing the brake light activation point to 7mm of rear brake pedal travel vs. the original 11mm, and they've replaced the switch spring with a new part 43232-48K00 (old/original part 09443-06054). I adjusted the switch activation point as directed and although that reduced the frequency of the problem by at least 50%, didn't totally eliminate it. So, I'm going to order the new spring but have to source it from the UK or EU as it's not in the US part system whatsoever. Neither is the service bulletin or a related one in the system. It's like the problem doesn't exist over here when clearly it does.

Interestingly, the rear brake light switch itself has been superceded, new part 37740-48K01 (old/original part 37740-48K00), but that's not mentioned in the service bulletin for the problem. But may end up being a situation where that ends up in a revised bulletin.

Finally, I read elsewhere in the thread about the hot start/run engine noise and mine started this week (at ~450 miles). Sounds like valvetrain tappet noise to me, similar to the ticking when lash is just beginning to go out of spec. Will be interesting to see if it worsens and/or where it leads.

Hot start noise is a non issue. Mines done it since 600 miles and never any worse or an issue to date at 7500 miles of hard running it. The CC issue is aggravating at times but I rarely use it anyway. But seems when I do I get the 3 flashes of the set light and next start up it’s fine.

Ok, good news it doesn't become anything, thanks for replying about
So, another member got me a copy of the AU manual for this bike (the dealer never gave me the US version), and in there I found this... do AU or EU bikes have the "target speed" displayed on the LCD for cruise control? My US bike does not, and I'm pretty sure I've seen in press reviews that their bikes did not either.

Mine does, but only briefly (3 secs or so) and only at time of initial setting. When tapping up/down speed or using the resume function it doesn't redisplay. Also, the +/- taps only change the speed in 1 kmh increments, so 2 taps = ~1 mph and 3 taps = ~2 mph. Because it's calibrated in metric vs imperial I really wished the set speed displayed anytime the cruise is engaged. And I'm pretty sure on cars it's a regulatory requirement in the US. Finally, it "forgets" its last programmed speed if I've come to a complete stop. Guessing that's a safety feature so you don't accidentally "resume" to 75 when just over the minimum reengagement speed. I think some cars I've driven do this too, but definitely not most.
