1. The angle of the bags looks very odd. They're pointed downward. Is that normal?
2. What modifications, if any, did you have to do to get the mounting hardware to fit the GSXS? I have the same bike, a 2016 GSXS1000F. You mention "custom bracket".

There is no specific bracket offered by Shad for this bike. I purchased a set of their universal P brackets and then fabricated the rest of the mounting system. The angle of the bags was to follow the lines of the bike. It does not effect the performance of the bags. Only modifications required to fit to your bike is replacing the bolts that hold the tail section on with the longer bolts and spacers along with the bolts/ pins for the passenger pegs. I can take some close up pics if that helps.

Nice website, and are those Allen Edmonds' Dalton boots you've got there on the home page?! I have two pairs myself. Interestingly I lived in Missouri (got my Masters) for about 15 years.

I'm concerned that the license plate holder + blinkers (previous owner used a fender eliminator grrrr) won't be a bolt-on process but I think I can make that fit.

Let me offer $500 and see if anyone else offers more. I know how much those hard cases cost ($473.99 per case) but I just bought a soft top case.

So Ido not see any issues other than the possibility of a clearance issue with the blinkers. Her are a few pics that should better explain how it mounts and any clearance issues with blinkers.

I think this will fit on my bike because my blinker aren't that wide but to make sure I'll unscrew the fender eliminator assembly and ascertain that it can stretch the extra inches. I'd try to bolt the fender eliminator bracket outside the luggage bracket.

So I am assuming he is referring to the ding that was discovered when the bags were cleaned for sale.
