Yes its loud but I've owned plenty of bikes as loud as yours, I've got the full M4 system and its loud too but if your in a built up area where there are lots of people I'd say a lot depends on how you ride the bike, keep in a higher gear and keep the revs down you'll likely not upset folk, low gear and high revs you probably will.

thanks but what I really want to know is how much the valve reduces sound

never had such a high tech bike and am tempted to dump it all and have a straight through system, I have this on my old xjr1300 but that it is very deep and mellow at low revs, suzi thous seem to howl, I know it is all subjective but if the valve keeps the noise down around town I may just go for a decat

Well, whether or not the decat increases noise, losing the muffler certainly does. The cat itself is just a relatively small cylinder that extends a little way into the underside box, starting in the main tube just behind the valve, the rest of that box is your muffler.

When I tested it the Valve didn't make a huge difference to the noise at idle (just opening it and closing it whilst the bike was sitting), it may have more effect at higher rpm and throttle but the maps for the throttle opening are really weird.

In the lower gears however the exhaust valve is fully open at low throttle openings, so wouldn't help with pulling away quietly in the mornings for example

(Exhaust Valve Map is identical for N,1, and 2)

Thanks Paul for explaining it. I was just about to do what you did and test it with the door open and closed before I send the ECU out for remap but now that I know for sure I won't have to go through that process thank you.

Man that bike on the dyne is loud. I could never remove my muffler if its like that. (I listen to music inside my helmet) so I like quiet bikes and I like puttering through my neighborhood all ninja like. You guys who have the box cut off, looks so clean but **** how much noise do you hear while riding at highway? is the noise behind you guys vs around.

not got the can or decat pipe yet but started it up with just the single CAT

reckon it does deaden the sound a bit, gonna see how it sounds with the can on, easy to knock CAT out later but reckon quite hard to put it back

You will know when it's loud enough if your partner is standing there with a drink ready for you when you pull on to the drive.;)
