The Z900 was a budget bike for sure, power was linear , like a electric engine, which I didn’t care for. I removed old exhaust and put on akrapovic. The bike really woke up and developed a hooligan personality!, we sold it in great condition, bought a Versys 1000 which is a great bike that does all things well…but i am not ready for that yet, which brings us to the GSX.

Took bike out and purposefully tried to make clutch slip. Couple things I noted: wow this throttle has a large throw, as in have to twist a lot to achieve wide open throttle. Second is clutch must have been slipping more than just what I thought, as I went to wide open throttle it lifted the front wheel even in 3rd gear. noticed no slipping at all. Seems to be the Clark Kent of motorcycles… mild by day.

When slipping clutch's come up here, it seems to be a Motul oil involved. I wonder if the design of the ramp style slipper clutch allows a film of these super synthetic oil's not to be squeezed out quickly enough. and it doesn't lock up correctly ?
Me, I gave away using these super oils years back due to the cost knowing they (the bikes) would be gone in pretty soon.
As all new Jap bikes I've owned, have just said 10W - 40 mineral oil, that's enough for me and if they say the oil change based on mileage and time is good enough, that what I do.
If we are talking of specialist race bikes, well that is another story isn't it ?

my gsx-s1000 just got back from the dealer for its valve check at 48K.
engine looks clean and i use the Motul 300 since day one. change oil and filter every 6K myself.
never had any mechanical problem.
Did the valves require any adjustment? Most of the guys with high mileage who have checked theirs didn't require any changes, so I'm wondering if your bike was still in spec or not at 48k miles.
