Hi. First time posting here so apologies if I mess up on any etiquette. Picked up my GSX S1000F yesterday after a couple of test rides and 100% happy with the purchase.

I mentioned the throttle response to my dealer before buying it and he said that "unofficially" there is a Suzuki ECU flash on the way to make the throttle roll-on a bit less sensitive.

I'm coming from a very snatchy Er-6 so it's really not much of a problem for me. During the run-in period it's a bit annoying because I have to sit at low revs so much, but I imagine I will just get used to it like any other quirk of a bike.

That said, I was just wondering if anybody has any information about flashing the ECU, especially if they have first-hand experience of the results. Does it make the roll-on a lot smoother ? Is it undoable in case I really don't like the change ?

Sorry, guys - thought I'd searched the forum for answers to this question but apparently I botched that.

Have found a few threads covering this topic already and it looks like the people who've had the ECM change are really happy with the results, so might ask them to switch it at the 600 mile service.

Yours might not have the problem as it's a later purchase.
The engines can be a little tight and lumpy when the are new but it will get a lot better once it has a few miles on it. Mine felt much better even after the 600 mile first service but most of the improvements happened after it was run in and I'd been off on a few trips (which may or may not have included a some good cainnings;))
Just go out and use it for a bit and see how you get on. Try to keep an open mind. There are just as many on here which don't have a problem as there are those that do.

My bike is blue and I'm in Brighton, UK. Nice to meet you all. :)

To be honest my Er-6f has a snatchier throttle than my Suzuki so it's already an improvement over that, and I'm getting used to it very quickly (and it does feel as though it's improving a bit). I'm mostly concerned about hitting a bump on a corner with a bit of lean and getting into trouble. It's catching me out less and less, so maybe I won't even notice it after a while.

I test rode a couple of GSX S1000's and the problem was less noticeable on them. Either way, it's a pretty small detail on what is otherwise a great bike. Unfortunately have been working all weekend so still only 200 miles on it, looking forward to getting past the initial run-in as keeping it below 5.6k is proving to be a little tricky. :)

Hey mate. Welcome and enjoy the beastie. Don't get too hung up about the perceived issue. Ride it a while and decide for yourself. I'd rather spend some cash on the suspension.

Rode 200 miles yesterday to finish off the 1st 500 mile run-in phase. Feel much more comfortable with the throttle now. It's more touchy than it was on the two demos I rode, but maybe just because they'd been run in a bit more than mine.

Riding it into London tomorrow so will see how it copes with that. :)

How many people with the snatchy throttle are from the US? My dealer ran my vin at the 600 mile service, and have come up with neither a recall or a service bulletin.
I don't believe I've experienced the problem much either, and my Naked was Born July of 2015

I'm in the US and purchased my bike in October of 2015. Don't remember when it was manufactured. My throttle was totally unacceptable in stock condition. A Throttle Tamer and a PCV helped some but the throttle is still unacceptable on track days which is what I purchased it for. I tolerate the throttle when pleasure riding through the local twisties. Talking to my dealer is useless. The big lesson that I personally learned from this entire ordeal is "never buy a motorcycle without test riding it first."

The "never buy a motorcycle without test riding it first." is so true in the GSXS1000's case.
But, and it's a big but, it would be extremely rare for a Dealer to PD and let you test ride a stock bike from the floor, let alone a bike that had to be ordered in, be invoiced for, without a very high part payment would it?
But is the Demo the same as what you will get - the one I had for 3 days at home was dog in comparison to mine and it was 'brave' decision to get one. It could have been another SV650 or a Cruiser very easily for me.


With all the variation that we hear about here between bikes, how do we as buyers know that test bikes that the Mag Jurno's and the US & CA Dealer Sideshows were not doctored with PCV's or a 'Special Suzi Fuel Map in a Special ECU ala VW Diesel Cheater motor tune????
Just wondering out loud to myself here as it would never happen.

Because every single review (I've seen) has complained about the throttle response, some even giving it as a reason to not buy the bike.
