I think I'm gonna need one, this bike makes me crazy.
Who uses one, what type, what form of alert are you using and how well do you think it works?

Hi Matt I'm also in NZ, have been using an Adaptiv TPX for a few years now. It's motorcycle specific and you can get a range of different brackets to suit different styles of bike. I have it set on Ka band to pick up police radar - works very well. Torpedo 7 have them on special offer every now and again, but got mine off eBay out of the USA.

Hey Steve,
I've ummed and aahed over the tpx for a while now but have never quite been able to convince myself to buy one. I know of another person who has one and thinks its good but there are some pretty poor reviews online which put me off a bit.
Nice and flat around Christchurch I bet it works well then, hows its range when you go out into the hills?
What alert system are you using?
Cheers

I use my smartphone with the waze gps application. Belgian community are very commited to this application. Warnings for fixed radars, mobile radar, traffic problems.....
My smartphone is connected to my helmet bluetooth headset intercomm

So I have phone, gps, radar, music combined in one

I have mounted a ´waterproof' phone holder on my steer

I too have and Adaptive TPX (and a RAM mount). Its motorcycle specific and waterproof. Like a friend told me "it may not be the most sensitive, but it is sensitive enough". And I agree. I always wear earplugs so I havent tried any Bluetooth solutions. The TPX makes a noise and flashes a red led in your face. It has sucessfully warned me about radar in the vicinity.

Hi range is good even up through the hills, I get sufficient warning each time. I've just fitted it to the GSX today using a SW Motech ram mount that uses the mirror fitting - bracket simply goes between the handlebar mount and the mirror lock nut. Will try and get a photo loaded up is you're interested. I use a Sena Bluetooth intercom and have the TPX linked into that through a Bluetooth transmitter - all works well. To be honest the led lights always catch my attention but it's good to have an audible warning too

Sounds good Steve, I'm real interested now and would be keen to see a photo.
I'm using a uclear bluetooth intercom so am keen to hook it up to that if possible. How big is the tpx bluetooth transmitter, its hard to tell from the photos?

Ok I will be back home on Wednesday (working away at the moment). Will post a few photos for you then. I'm using the Sena Bluetooth transmitter which connects direct to the TPX wiring loom - basically it uses a headset/ear phones connector. The Sena unit is quite big compared to others that are available, but the battery lasts for ages off a single charge. There are other much smaller ones around but with the large amount of space available under the pillion seat, it's not an issue. Keep an eye on Torpedo7.co.nz who often have the TPX on special for around $399

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the site and pick up my GSX-S 1000A in about a week. I'm also in NZ and have been using a detector since I did the round NZ in 5 days endurance ride on my Blackbird in 2005. Still very happy with my Escort 8500, coupled to a screamer for warnings. If it's of any interest, I did a write-up here: Confessions of an Ageing Motorcyclist: Radar Detectors - worth having?

Cheers,

Geoff
