Replacement grips

Has anyone replaced the grips on their GT? I'm mainly curious if the stock grips have any weird or special molding, especially on the throttle side? Or will any standard replacement grips just work? I figured I'd ask before I whip out the box cutter.

Got mine off by working WD40 under them and using compressed air. Just a tube, nothing special. If you don't wipe off all the glue then new grips will still stick quite well.

Great, thanks! The stock ones aren't terrible, but I like something a little more grippy and have a set of Vortex V3 street grips sitting in a box.

When I installed my heated grips, the old ones came off pretty easy, I just put a thin screwdriver under there and twisted it around and the old grips slid off. To get the new ones on, on the clutch side it was extremely tight and I used some soapy water to get it to slide on, after a while the water will evaporate and it'll be nice and tight. On the throttle side there were notches I had to file off (I don't think you'll need to do this if you're using regular grips, heated grips are different) and I used a bit of super glue since it wasn't as tight as the clutch side.
To get grips off I've used the "pry away with a screw driver" method in the past, but compressed air works too, as does just cutting the grip off. For putting grips back on, my preferred method has been to use Windex. It's a slick as soapy water when going on, but dries out more tacky in my experience. I know hair spray is another option, but I haven't used that in a long time.
I've heard of people putting on a bit of spray paint to be a glue when it tries, but I sure wouldn't use a lot of it...
I ended up going with the Pro Grip 717 in blue, it's a close-enough color match and the fitment was spot on. Combined with my new ASV levers, the controls feel great.

I put Grab on foam grip covers over the oem grips on all my bikes. Its old school but dampens the vibrations well and comfortabke on long rides
