Sargent seat development for GT

Yesterday I got an email from the Sargent Seat Co representative saying that they will manufacture both front and passenger seats for our GT's! They're even considering making a passenger backrest if sufficient interest is shown.
They've asked customers to reach out to them, with improvement ideas and comments so the finished product will be exactly what we need.

A back rest for a sport bike? That's so dumb. LOL

Thanks it's a great idea. Too bad the first 2 responses are narrow minded and useless. It's not just a sport bike, it's trying to be a GT as well- just look at the letters on the side of the fairing. A better seat with the option to make a passenger comfortable is excellent. Thanks again.

I ride two up pretty often so any option of a back rest would be welcomed and i would be interested in seeing it, as would my wife. Let’s just hope they can integrate something that is safe, comfortable and looks halfway decent on the bike. Maybe they could also incorporate a top box mount option into the backrest for those longer getaways. After all, I bought this as a touring bike.

I would like to see it, My Girl is not happy with it, She would rather be on the VSTROM.

Obviously it would only be used when a passenger is aboard....
Tell your GF she looks hotter on the GT….

hahahahhah. You are right!
I did get an email from Mary at Sargent. Looks like they are working on it. Probably take forever though.

Or 2 up riding. My photos implied the option of one day you ride with no bags and a seat cowl, next day you throw on the paaenger seat on the back, click the bags on. Load up the gear and go. No tools, 2 completely different style in one bike. Obviously the stock passenger seat in only good for a short ride, so wide cushy seat for the passenger would make a big improvement for those who’ve turn down that road. But then there would have to be the backreast, then the floor bords, followed by the armrest and the cup holder. The music would be bluetoothed to the helmet
Am following this with interest. My wife is not happy with the stock seat and I bought it when she was out of town.

always better to ask for forgiveness ( when dealing with Motorcycles) … then permission lol
If they ever come out with a backrest for the GT your wife will love it 👍

I just bought a ‘23 and first thing I noticed was that I need a seat asap. I have had Sargent seats on my last 4 bikes. I called Sargent and spoke to Mary and they still need a donor bike to design the seat pan. It’s looking late summer if we are lucky.

Anyone using another seat or something to ease the discomfort?
Bar risers, rotated bars and moved the controls inward did it for me. The factory seat isn't wonderfully great but that stuff makes it reasonable for me...
I've had both sargent and corbin seats on various bikes over the years. I have found them both very comfortable, if you like a firm seat. I purchased a corbin for my GT and have found it to be better than the stock. The pillion seat on the Corbin, according to my girl is far and away better than the stock. She found the stock pillion intolerable after 30 minutes. The corbin is a one peice seat.

I was thinking bar risers could help a little anyway as I’m coming off a GS1250. Can you share what one you went with? Also, do you recall torque spec?

Appreciate all the help with getting the new bike sorted out.

I needed risers for my old Bandit 1200, so wasn't suprised to need them here. A number of folks make them for the gsxs.

bought thru their US distributor, took maybe 10-14 days to arrive. As for torque, I went for "firmly tightened with greased threads" using a regular length 3/8" drive socket wrench. Not a critical or hidden fastener so I opted for shade-tree methods.
Thanks gpounce for the information. I really appreciate it.
I would think they would just buy an OEM seat, it's not like it's crazy money. Seems kind of petty to wait for someone to "donate" one.
It’s my understanding that they need the bike to develop the seat pan and how their newly designed seat integrates with the bike. You can send your seat to to them for custom foam but won’t be the same end result. I‘ll wait it out. I counted and and this will be my 6th Sargent. My butt just loves them :giggle:
