The two bikes look very similar. I'm not sure that Suzuki is ever going to really be said tin the same breath as BMW, but I'm sure the Suzuki would be a great alternative. The front headlight looks pretty cool too. I like the split headlight look.

How do they compare when you look at the specs on each bike?

I personally think it was just time for Suzuki to create a naked bike that could compete in botb performance and sales with other manufacturers, not just BMW. Suzuki is also competing against the bikes like the Kawasaki Z-1000, Ducati Monster 1200 and to a lesser extent the Yamaha MT-09. (I say 'lesser extent' as i dont see the mt-09 being in same league as the other bikes mentioned and it also has a smaller engine capacity).

The BMW offering is a nice bike, but i dont see how its better than the Suzuki or even the kawasaki, and insurance and registration on the Japanese bikes would be far cheaper not to mention the price difference of the initial purchase. Japanese bikes = great package at a good price Euro trash= about the same as japanese quality + 10k + lol

I've owned the BMW S1000R and it was hands down the most fun bike I've ever had...and I've had a few lol. A very fair price I thought too. I didn't like the DDC though so sold it. I still may buy a standard one....if I can find one... Marketing did a great job and of course everyone wants the DDC version...172 hp at the crank and 207 kg wet ain't too shabby for a naked. I hope the new Suzy excites in the same way with the 30 hp deficit....don't rule out the 'euro trash' ...

My apologies for the Euro trash comment lol, i dont mind some BMW's and Ducati makes great bikes. I just think that Japanese manufacturers make bikes that are just as good as the Euro manufacturers (and some better) and they usually are a lot cheaper than their Euro counterparts in both purchase price and then insurance/rego/servicing.
