For me it was the engine. I wanted to see what the legendary K5 was all about even though this one has steel valves and milder cams and peak power is at a lower rpm.

It was what was the big deal about the long stroke engine? I have a 16 unfaired version and yes the engine is the best thing about it if a inline 4 is what you want. It even has more of a old school sound.

I just like Suzuki's- the crotchrocket crouch was just too tiring for long rides otherwise I'd probably have a gsxr 750. I'm not really a good enough rider to fully use 130+hp, it is bonkers how much power the gsxs engine puts out. I sure like the low end torque though, very helpful in the commute grind- not a lot of motorbike glory in that I suppose but it makes the slow stuff a lot more pleasant. And blasting up off a highway entrance ramp is such a rush

At the time I had two sportsbikes, a zx6r and rsv4 1100. Previously had a few nakeds, speed triple’s, mt09, z900 etc and fancied another. Took the demo out expecting to not like it, 90 mins later I’m agreeing to part x the zx6r, picked my gsxs up the next day

Strictly utilitarian despite owning a number of scooters, sportbikes, and standards since I was 15. I was looking for a Suzuki Burgman 650 but the prices for scooters (and most bikes) went insane. This bike was sitting in someone's garage and the guy needed to get rid of it. It did take some tender loving care and a fair amount of money (tires, ABBA stand, brake fluid, luggage, LOTS of cleaning) to bring it back to life and suitable to be a daily commuter.

Although I love motorcycles, I have not once ridden this bike as a toy. It's essentially being used as a 1000cc Suzuki Burgman.

i got mine due to the riding position, and the availability of gsxr1000 hi performance parts, so i could develop the engine back to superbike level performance, but still have a easier riding position for my neck. its not about topspeed for me....i just like getting there quickly.....haha

Lots of power at a very affordable price, best 1000cc bike for my size 5'5" 140 lbs., reliability, very easy to maintain, easy and very smooth to ride, very fast for the streets, very safe on the fwy, etc.

I wanted a more upright riding position. I didn't want a cruiser. I like the fuel economy, power and reliability of inline 4's.

The 2023 GSX-S1000 gives me all of that with plenty of power and all the technology it has is amazing.

Note: I come from a long list of HEAVY Touring bikes, so I do chuckle a little when posters comment on a comfortable ride. I do realize they are coming off sport bikes. Don't hate, Iam 70....been riding 56 yrs
This is only my 2nd metric bike as I also have a V-Star 1100
I really love my new Zuk

Price, first. Reliability a close second. I was looking to purchase a used EBR1190 or Aprilia Tuono, both were pretty much the same price as I bought my new 2016 gsxs for, but reliability was way behind on both of them.

I really like the EBR. But not enough support for them. Erik was supposed to start production on a new model. I probably would have bought one if he did.

I used to own a k6 and loved that motor but was a little disappointed with the power of the gsxs but it's a naked so it really didn't matter.
But the main reason for purchase was the lack of electronics plus Suzuki was not cheaping out on the frame and swing arm like other manufacturers.
