Pulled up outside work this morning,
went to resstart bike everything lit up like a xmas tree bike turned over didn't want to start.leave it alone for an hour and a bit came out to have another crack at starting it ,bike started up no trouble.any ideas guys this ones got me a bit concerned that it might happen again.
Yup to the fuel pump,I pressed the starter once then let go and it kept trying to start itself .gave up on that then let it cool for a hour and a bit .then she started right up.very weird .
Sounds like the battery might be on it's way out. How old is it and do you keep it on a battery conditioner?
Older or tired batteries often can't give out optimal power when they have just come off a charge cycle (like riding to work or after a run). Once they have cooled down they start to work again as they should.
It might not be but its an easy place to start. Other starting problems have been traced to clogged fuel filters or fuel pump
The entire bike is only 2 1/2 months old ,so the batt might just be the easiest place to start.have to wait till Friday morn nz time when bike goes on the workshop bench.
For what it’s worth, if it won’t start try opening the fuel cap momentarily , then try again. I’ve heard of this occasionally working due to a fuel lock.
I had the same problem and it turned out to be one dud spark plug; you have to change th em every 12000km, and if one is underperforming te ecu stops the bike functioning
What Was the mileage when you changed the spark plugs? Iridium should certainly last longer than regular plugs, and even though Suzuki say to change them every 12000 km, it still seems too soon for a well running engine.
A friend of mine is an electrician. He tests his spark plugs every 12000 kilometres. Didn’t need to change the plugs on his 2000 R1 until it had 45000 kilometres on it. Seems to me when iridium plugs will last until 100000 kilometres in a car, they should last in a bike at least 20000 without a problem. Rare as it is I’d say you had a defective plug.
Thanks, however the significance is, that if , albeit rarely, a plug fails, the ecu detects it, and the bike runs like the proverbial "dog crapping razor blades" until it is replaced
