I had the same on my gsx s950. The Suzuki dealer fixed it for me. I’m no mechanic but they told me the valves had to be adjusted.

Did you also have a bad engine tick sound upon warm restart?

 

I have the hot start loud tick. Mine is in the shop for it and has been for 2 months. They told me they replaced the tensioner and I told them about the valves and how there is a bulletin out for it. They said they would look into it. I called them thursday and they said it should be about ready and the noise is gone. We will see about that.

So starting issue and he said valves, it makes sense that the tick is coming from the valves.

 

It does make sense, yes.
Too high valve clearance would cause rough starts, it says so in the manual as well.

The warm restart tick is really bad on mine, so I will get my valves adjusted asap. I think I will do it myself, as I am a bit hesitant to let a half-assed mechanic dig into my engine.

 

Yeah I wanted to but it was under warranty. Better be fixed when I get it back. Mine was bad too. Had to talk over it.

I thought I would let you guys know that I got my bike back from the dealer. Valve check seemed to be all over the place. They replaced cam chain tensioner, jet, I think they adjusted the valves and the bike runs nice and smooth now with no hot start rattle or tapping, YET. I don't think it has ever run this smooth.
