Info says top end on a GSX-S1000F is limited to 165 mph. Anyone know what it would be unrestricted stock? What about with an exhaust and tuned?

165mph? Utter bollox , I hit 165 & saw 9k rpm , i backed off as this was a reckless (albeit in ideal conditions & during covid so roads were empty) act on the roads & changed the gearing a week later for increased acceleration.

sure you could get more if you are willing to put some cash into the machine

the speedometer will read 165 when it tops out , but in reality it will be around 158 because of speedometer error , with a tune that will unrestrict the bike. the top speed will be around 161 .these bikes lose power on top end and it crawls to reach 165 . changing the gearing will get you to up into the high digits faster but it will still bottom out at around 155 and then start to crawl to 165 . these bikes are just not made to go over 165 .

Interesting that unrestricting and tune only gains about 3 mph. Figured with an average of about 10hp, depending on exhaust and tune, that there would be more top end gained. This puts it on par with a 2005 gsx-r 1000. Was thinking more like 10-15 mph. Part of this was based on 2005 gsx-r 1000 having a top end around 175-185. Is the gsx-r 1000 that much more aero dynamic or taller gearing?

just pondered thoughts. 🤔

aerodynamics play a huge part in top speeds, hp will overcome that till approaching 200mph, but yes the gsxs isnt very aerodynamic, its taller, wider handlebars, bigger mouth to the fairing than the gsxr so will require more hp to get simular speeds, im hoping for 190rwhp from my current engine build, so ill see how much that improves the top speed, previous max i had was only 270kph

I hear you, but I didn't think the GSX-S1000 "F" (not the standard GSX-S 1000) had aerodynamics that much worse than the older GSX-R1000. Both are full faired and the windshield isn't that much taller on the GSX-S "F". The old 2005 GSX-R1000 had a top end of 186 mph reportedly. Based on tune and pipe a tuned GSX-S1000 "F" would be closer to that you would think. I was thinking in the 170's mph. Looking at getting mine piped and tuned, hopefully this year. If I can muster the stones, I might have to see what it will do.

They (f) are consderably taller and wider than the gsxr1k, the handlebars protrude alot more, i havent seen any aerodynamic drag numbed for the f, but i sure dont think its particularly good at slicing through the air, i can say the old gsxr11 fairing did a much better job of protecting the rider from wind & westher

No mention of rpm older gsxr motor I would think had a higher rpm. For any bike for it to hit higher top speed it needs more rpm. 600s hit gsxs top speeds and more. Because higher rpm. Chasing top end power loose bottom mid range power for the street. That’s simple terms. Two of the same bike the one that pulls more rpm go faster. Many faster bikes passed me at 140 by then who cares. They got a good long look at my rear tire
